CHAPTER ONE:
THE NIGHTMARE
AND THE BOTTLE OF WINE

I was dying. We both knew it, and we both knew that nothing could be done for me. The wound was deep, blood was everywhere, I looked up into his gray eves. "The pain is great m'love and I am dying," I whispered painfully.

"Yes. I know my dearest. There is only one way to save you," he said sadly.

"No Grey. Please let me die. I promise you I'll come back to you no matter hoe long it takes," I said as I felt pain wreak through my body. "Oh God! The pain! Make it stop please!" I cried.

Grey nodded his head. "I shall do as you ask m'love. I shall wait for you, to come back to me. I shall wait for all eternity if I must. Know this; While I am waiting I shall love no other," he said as blood tears fell form his eyes.

Suddenly his eyes turned blood red and his fangs extended fully. "You will know no pain as I take your blood. You will only know the ecstasy I feel when I feed." With that, Grey plunged his fangs into my exposed neck.

I ran my fingers in his soft hair and then wrapped my arms around him, pulling him closer to me in heightened need. I felt only great pleasure as he drank of my life's blood. I was at the point of death when he pulled away.

    "Forgive me m'love."

     "I love you," I whispered.

"I love you as well and always." He then kissed me soft, gently caressing the inside of my mouth with is tongue. I held him close, then I closed my eyes as my arm dropped to the stone floor on the castle.....

I woke up with a start, screaming. I found myself in my bedroom at my loft. Safe and sound and very much alive. My body, bed cloths and nightgown covered in sweat, Tears ran down my cheeks as I realized that it was only a nightmare. The same nightmare I have been heaving for a month now.

I knew that I wouldn't be able to go back to sleep. "God damn Kindred!" I cried as I threw off the covers and got out of bed. I tiredly walked to the bathroom, slipping off my sweat soaked nightgown, disposing it on to the floor.

I turned on the shower and stepped in. The water was as hot as I could stand. I stood there in the shower letting the water lap over my body, trying to wash away the pain and loneliness I have felt over the years.

My memories returned to the night I lost my husband to be. It was the same night I found out that vampires existed and it was the same night I became a vampire hunter. David and I were watching T.V that night. I was snuggled against his chest. His arms around me holding me tightly. I could feel his chin resting on top of my head. How happy I was!

Suddenly the front door burst open as four vampires, with their fangs bared, rushed into our house, They pulled David and me apart. The lead vampire was Ash, my partner on the police force where we were homicide detectives. Ash smiled at me, sharp white fangs shown, "Come Jenice, Be mine forever or your lover dies," he said.

"Never!" I cried. Without warning, one of the vampires bit into David's neck, draining him of his blood. Ash smiled as David's body fell to the floor. "My dear Jenice. I will let you live with your guilt for it wasn't me who killed your lover but it was you and your decision that killed him." With that he and the others flew off, leaving me with David's body.

As I came back to the present, I realized that the water had turned cold, I quickly shut off the water and put on a black silk bathrobe. I looked in the mirror as I bushed out my golden brown hair that just barely touched my shoulders. My brown eyes red with crying, I had freckles on my nose that made me look younger than my 22 years of age. I was only four foot eleven and in my business size doesn't matter much. With that done, I walked into the kitchen, opened the refrigerator and took out a bottle of red wine and sat down on the couch. I took out the cork and drank the whole bottle. When the wine was gone, I fell into a dreamless drunken sleep.
