CHAPTER THREE:
THE ACCIDENT
AND THE RESCUE
A week later, I got a phone call from the head of the V.H.C. This was unusual because the council always contacted me by mail so this phone call was of great importance. "Hello?" I asked when I picked up the phone.
"Jenice? This is Valerian. You know who I am."
"Yes I know. What do you want?" I asked getting to the point.
"Do you want to bring down all of the Kindred in this city?" Valerian asked.
"You know I do."
"Good. Here is your assignment. You are to find who the prince is and then you are going to kill him," he said. "Will you do it?"
"Yes."
"Good. Contact me when the job is done." He gave me his number and after saying good bye I hung up.
I had no clue who the prince was, but I did know where to get the information. I got on my bike and started to drive to a club call the Rave, a local hangout for vampires. My contacts there would know where I could find the prince.
As I drove through the darken streets of Port Angeles, I looked back to find that I was being followed. I hit the accelerator the bike speed up beneath me.
My pressures also on bikes. There were three of them, all wore black leather, all in helmets to hide their faces. My guess was that they were pissed off vampires.
I made a quick decision to take the chase off road and into the forest that surrounds this small town. I moved with great speed as I dodged trees and rocks. I drove my bike under a tree branch, ducking as I went under.
Looking back, I saw one of my pursuers forget to duck and hit the tree branch at full force. His bike went forward while he fell off and hit the ground hard.
I didn't stop to see if he was all right. I had to keep moving. I sped up and tried my best not to loose control. Without warning fallen tree was directly in my path. I quickly jumped the log, but my two other pursuers missed the jump and crashed into the fallen tree.
I looked back and laugh but when I looked back to the road, I saw that I was headed straight for a tree. I turned the bike, but couldn't avoid hitting the tree wheels first. My body skidded a few features the forest floor. I stopped a few feet away from my bike.
I was hurt, I could tell. Where and how badly, I didn't know. I couldn't move, my whole body felt like one big bruise. Lucky for me I had my helmet on.
I began to panic as I realized that I was alone. No one knew where I was and the only one who would care was my partner and he knew nothing of my second job. There was no hope of rescue because I was in the middle of nowhere. I felt helpless and I was for the first time in a long time, I was scared.
I slipped in and out of consciousness for about an hour, I knew I was dying. The last time I fell unconscious I thought I was going to die right then. Cold blackness surrounded me as I let go of myself to what I thought was death.
I awoke to the sensation being lifted up. I opened my eyes to see a man carrying me in his arms. My helmet was off which most likely mad me lighter. I opened my mouth to speak, but the man spoke first. "Hush young lady. You were in an accident. Don't worry my car is nearby. I'll take you to my home were a physician is waiting to treat your wounds. Please don't be afraid. You will be safe. Sleep now. Sleep." All of the sudden a wave of fatigue hit me. I tried to fight it, but to no avail and fell into the blackness of sleep.
