CHAPTER FIVE:
THE NIGHT VISITOR
AND THE PARTY

For two days and two night, I stayed in bed. Only getting up to bathe and eat. The pain in my ankle and ribs was that bad. My days were filled with boredom. In the mornings, I got out of bed with the help of crutches. I hobbled down stairs into the big dining room where I sat down at a huge oak table.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner was served by an old lady named Lilly. She was nice and friendly. We talked about the weather and how I was healing. My host would only appear at dinner which was served after dark. Grey was very a nice man, but he sat there quietly watching me eat as he ate nothing. This led be to think that he was a vampire and I was still to wounded to do anything about it if he was.

After dinner, I would retire to my room. I wouldn't go to bed right away. Instead, I wold read a book. It was the way night except on the second night. As I read my book on the second night, I drifted off into a deep dark sleep.

During the night I became aware of of the presence of someone beside my bed. I didn't open my eyes because I didn't want this person to know that I was half awake. I felt this persons fingers run through my hair.

"My God Jenice!" A man's voice whispered in my ear. "You cam back to me like you premised. Now I must keep my promise and protect you from Ash. No matter what I have to do." I felt his lips press against my fore head in a soft gentle kiss. I knew he left when I heard the door close.

I laid there, eyes still shut wondering what that was all about. I fell asleep wondering this.

On the night of the party, Lilly brought me a beautiful evening dress. The dress was black that fit my small figure perfectly, the straps were thin, made of black lace. The matching gloves were made of black velvet. Around my neck was a choker that had a comer in the center. The choker itself was made of small black beads. My hair was put up in a Victorian style.

Lilly stood there looking at me, awestruck. "Miss Daywalker! You look gorgeous," she exclaimed.

"Well I fell like a Barbie Doll," I told her. "But you look lovely dear. Oh look at the time! You better get going," Lilly said pushing me out my bedroom door.

I looked down at the staircase, dreading the walk down them because of my sore ankle. I descended the stair slowly, grabbing hold of the the railing, hoping no one notice my slight limp. The party was in the ballroom that was at the bottom of the stairs. As I stepped into this large elegant room, I saw Grey surround by beautiful women. I stood there watching him talking to these women, feeling self-conscious because I knew that I wasn't beautiful, but was ordinary.

Grey glanced at my direction, smiles, turned back to the women, nodded and walked in my direction. He took my hand and kissed the back of it. "I am delighted to see that you are well enough to join us this evening," he said.

"The pleasure is all mine Mr. Kail," I told him shyly.

"Please call me Grey,: he said, smiling.

I smiled back as I realized that there was something seductive in his voice. "Only if you call me Jenice," I said.

"Good. I am glad to have dropped the formalities between us," he said. Grey then, looked passed me and sighed. "My dear Jenice. I'm sorry, but I have some business to attend to. I'll be back only if you promise to dance with me."

"Sure," I said, nodding to him.

"Good. Meanwhile, mingle with the other guests. I bet you will find them very interesting," he said. Then walked away

I did what Grey suggested, to my horror I discovered that most of the guests were vampires. What could this mean? Is Grey a vampire as well? Fear gripped my soul at the thought that my host could be one of them. If the vampire guests found out about my second job I was in big trouble.

I wanted to run away, but that would only make them suspicious of me so I stood there smiling trying to act normal.

An hour later, Grey walked into the ballroom. Grey stopped at the entrance. He looked around the room as if he was looking for someone. His eyes came to rest on me. Grey smiled as he walked over to me. My host took my hand and said, "My dear Jenice. I'm sorry I neglected you. I am back now and want you to fulfill your promise to me."

I looked at him with a confused look on my face. "Promise? What Promise?"

"You promised me a dance. You're not going back on your promise are you?"

"No of course not," I said. Grey snapped his fingers and the music started. He pulled me close to him and we danced slowly to the song "My heart will go on" sung by C eline Dion.

Our bodies moved in unison as we danced. It was like he was apart of me and I of him. Like we were two halves of the same whole. I looked into his eyes and was shocked to see that his eyes were gray. This was no ordinary man, this was the vampire in my dreams. Grey held me closer to him. His body was seductively close to mine and I had no choice but to surrender to him. I put my head on his shoulder and closed my eyes. We danced like this until the song ended and everyone clapped with approval.

Lilly walked into the ballroom and as the clapping died down she called, "Dinner is served!" "Shall we go?" Grey said taking my hand I nodded and he lead me to the dining room. Where the strangest conversation was about to take
